Jan’s parents had a gift to our little one when they visited us last week. A baby’s first book. BUT…
Well, Jan was holding me back from buying a baby book, I bet because my in-laws were planning to give me one. Which is better, because it would be in danish. Jan had a baby book which was religiously filled-out by his mom and I also would want one.
When my dad-in-law handed me the gift, I thought there was something special in it and suited us. The drawings were of different babies from all over the world. With that, I meant baby of different races. I flipped through the pages and it was just perfect because the way it was made was suitable for us living overseas.
I then reached the last page which says adoptivforældre which means “adoptive parents”.
I looked at my dad-in-law and asked “adoptive parents”? “I am not sure we are adopting another baby because we have one of our own on the way.” I said, while smiling at him.
I heard my mom-in-law saying “Oh no. It’s a mistake”. Looking at Jan’s dad: “I should have had come with you that day. You know nothing about gifts.” We all burst into laughter.
Jan was taunting his dad saying: “You would be making an interesting talk and explanation to your grandson if we keep the book.”
Jan’s father bought the book without reading through it. He bought a baby’s first book for adopted kids. The texts and illustrations make sense. I would love to keep it if only some texts and drawings were different. It was a very nice book.
Will you have a baby’s first book for your angel?
Did you have one yourself?
