Islands Brygge has become my place of comfort and refuge in Denmark for 2.5 years now.
I bicycled around Islands Brygge today… grateful to be living in this side of Copenhagen.
Islands Brygge (Iceland Quay)
I love this place. From corner to the other there is an ice cream shop, several restaurants and coffee shops ready to take orders. 🙂
It is still cold outside and windy today, so you won’t be expecting crowd in Bryggen. But there were some who were already excited and had brunch outside in Kulturhuset today. Other stopped by the uniqe mini bus of Hansen´s Flødeis and bought ice cream. Some had b-b-q lunch.
But on summer days it is jam-packed especially on the days with special events. Folk eating ice cream, swimming, & dancing to loud music. There are picnics, sunbathing, water activities and sometimes smell of cannabis.
Islands Brygge seems like another world few minutes away from the city center in summer. And it´s the time of the year we do not miss. Last year we had picnic at Bryggen and brought with us bread, tapas and a bottle of wine while enjoying the rest of the day under the sun.
Islands Brygge is an old and abandoned industry dockland. The railroad tracks are still there, reminding everyone the old days. In summertime you get the chance to see the history of the Islands brygge inside this old train car/railway car. They showcase old photos and videos. One will admire the difference after the massive development. Nowadays you can see the beauty of both old and new buildings in the area.
Celebrity neighborhood. If you are watching Familien fra Bryggen and familiar of Lindsey… she lives in this building. I remember one episode of the series were she shouted to the pizza shop from this balcony and ordered pizza! 🙂 I find her entertaining. We onced came across her while she was walking her dog, it was just embarrassing to ask to have a photo with her. I thought I should not disturb someone who´s enjoying the day with her dog, for once in public without a camera following her. Haha
HOW TO REACH ISLANDS BRYGGE
From Rådhuspladsen: It´s a 20 minutes walk from the Rådhuspladsen. Go straight pass Langebro via H.C. Andersens Blvd. The Islands Brygge is to the right side of the bridge.
From Dybbølsbro Station: It takes 10-15 minutes walk via Bryggebroen.
